Makeup foundation tips

Posted by tehreem On February - 29 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

One of the first makeup tips you should observe is the importance of finding the the right foundation. It could be the difference between looking as if you have naturally flawless skin or as if you are wearing a mask.

Most women have yellow-based skin. They include most Caucasians and all Asian, Latin and African women. To get that perfectly natural, flawless look they need to wear foundations with a yellow base.

Most foundations on the market however have pink or orange tones. Women wearing these foundations often end up looking artificial, ashy and two-toned.

Foundation Tips

  • Test foundation along your jaw line - not on your hand and definitely not on the inside of your wrist. View it under different light settings. It must match the natural color of your neck.

  • For easy transition from day to night makeup, touch up with Sacha’s Dual Activ Foundation. If will provide the finish of a powder with the coverage of a foundation.
  •

  • Dampen your cosmetics sponge to create a sheer finish.
  • For a great makeover you must start with the right foundation. Whereas eye shadow, lipstick, and blusher accent the face, it is the foundation that sets the tone for a woman’s appearance.  Test foundation on the jaw line or forehead.
  • If you want your foundation to look sheer, apply it with a sponge. For more coverage apply it with your fingertips. Professional makeup artists prefer using a makeup brush as this will apply and blend the foundation beautifully.
  • Tap foundation on with sponge or finger. Your skin will look luminous, yet natural.

Alessandra Facchinetti debuted in what is arguably the toughest job in fashion on Thursday presenting her first collection for Valentino since the maestro couturier retired in January after 45 years.

And, perhaps wisely, the 35-year-old former Gucci designer did not stray far from the path that made Valentino the red-carpet favorite for generations of glamorous women from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to Julia Roberts.

Ruffles, bows and flaming red dresses — the signature touches Valentino made his own over decades — all made their appearance, together with modern twists of volume skirts and sleek black suiting.

Held on an all-white runway at the Palais de Chaillot near the Eiffel Tower, Facchinetti also stayed true to Valentino’s legendary love of spectacle, although overall opted for a more muted palette of blacks, navy and beige.

Actress Winona Ryder, a front row guest, said the show was “absolutely beautiful.” Notably also on the front row, Giancarlo Giammetti, Valentino Garavani’s long-time business partner, gave his blessing, and noted its “elegance, quality and lightness.”

It’s turning out to be a great week for Riccardo Tisci, who staged a greatly inventive show for Givenchy evening in Paris, a day after the house confirmed he will also take over design duties at its men’s division.

Under Tisci, Givenchy has been reborn, shaking off its reputation as the place where even designers of evident talent ? John Galliano and Alexander McQueen ? struggled to impose a style and vision.

“Gothic Latino,” cracked Tisci when asked about his inspiration post show, adding that a trip to Venezuela ignited many of the ideas.

Great fashion is often an unlikely synthesis of far distant ideas, and the way that Riccardo fused the frills, ruffles and strict lace of a Musketeer onto slick short, artfully cut and coolly asymmetric jackets, worn over Tisci’s signature cigarette pants.

Poised yet punchy, the collection had lots of ladylike looks but with street credibility. They are high-end clothes but ideal for multi-tasking ? one could wear them anywhere from a Basel art opening or Rolling Stones concert to a design presentation, or even mass.

Balmain`s Rock-chick style opens Paris Fashion Week

    Posted by tehreem On February - 24 - 2008 1 COMMENT

Rock-chick style opened Paris Fashion Week on Sunday with a Balmain show filled with spray-on tight minidresses and gem-encrusted jackets fit for singer Chrissie Hynde at her peak.

Models with hair flowing straight and sleek hit the catwalks in dresses barely hitting their thighs in black whorled chiffon or cut away at the mid-riff to reveal flashes of black lace. Skirts were also mini, ruched in leather and slung low.

Christophe Decarnin, the designer behind the remaking of the established house of Balmain, had a similar revealing take on trousers for fall and winter 2008.

They were drainpipe tight, mostly in black and studded with zips or embroidered with crystals. One stand out pair was flame red against a cheetah skin print background.

“I think it is a great start to Paris with that show. It was sexy and full of energy. I’m sure all the girls showing the dresses were just dying to keep them,” French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld told Reuters Television.

“It is a show for girls of that generation. You know they were happy to wear it. That will be one of the favorite shows, you can just feel it.”

    Women’s Hair Color Trends 2008

    Posted by tehreem On February - 24 - 2008 2 COMMENTS

Picking a colour which is in the fashion is not a easy job – New colours are being invented, and mixing colours are popular for ages, but there’s always a doubt whether it ever even looked good. Here we come up with a list of the colours you should be sporting in 2008.

    Dirty Blonde

It’s time to get down and dirty. 2008 is the time to throw out average blonde, and look to more extremes. While blonde with dark roots seemed popular at the beginning of 2007, an overly more natural look is the safe choice of 2008.

Dirty Blonde Women's Hair Colour Trend 2008

What’s best is that it really is the transeasonal colour for 2008/2009. It hasn’t yet hit the street in a massive way (straw blonde is still out there in force sadly), but you’ll find it in both the Spring-Summer and Fall (Autumn)-Winter runway collections, and we’ve seen it work particularly well with the soft and feminine hair style trend as seen on Tommy Hilfiger’s Fall-Winter 2008/2009 catwalk on the likes of Caroline Trentini and Jessica Stam

    Platinum Blonde

Hypermodel Kate Moss is the one who made the fringe a hair trend for 2008, and she’s doing the same with platinum blonde. Moss first showed off her platinum blonde look, paired with a bob, in November 2007’s issue of i-D magazine and we knew it would be an instant hit.

Much like the dirty blonde hair colour trend, platinum blonde is another shade for 2008. But it differs in its suitability for the seasons: while you’ll be able to wear it all year round, it really is best suited to Spring-Summer 2008.

    Auburn, Not Red

Red hair is a staple for so many people, but while fiery red has been popular in recent times it’s been rarely seem out in the wild. Instead we’ve noticed an enormous increase in the popularity of auburn. You can also turn to burgundy and maroon, just make sure before to pick a hair colour that mixes red and brown with a natural finish.

Auburn will be best for the Fall (Autumn) - Winter 2008/2009 season, hence it’s immense popularity on the Fall-Winter catwalks, particularly Chris Han’s

Mascara tips:Make your eyes brighter and wider

Everything You Need to Know About Mascara

We’ve compiled a list of great mascara tips & tricks to share with you. Follow these and you’ll save money, look prettier and your eyes will appear brighter nd wider

  • Tip #1: How to use a lash comb. For some, lash combs are simply too fussy. But for some makeup artists, they’re a great invention and keep lashes glob-free and perfectly separated. So how to use? Apply mascara at the lash base. Then wiggle the lash comb through to the tips of your lashes. Not into the lash comb? Get rid of clumbs without them by removing excess mascara from the wand. Wipe wand on tissue, this eliminates blobs BEFORE you start.
  • Tip #2: Try a clean mascara wand. Sweep a clean, fresh mascara wand through lashes when they’re wet. Don’t worry, you don’t have to buy them. When you finish a mascara, clean the wand in a capful of eye makeup remover, then wash with soap and dry. Keep it clean by washing it whenever you wash your makeup tools.
  • Tip #3: Don’t shy away from colored mascara. Basic mascara rules are simple: Black works for everyone but can be harsh on blondes. Blondes should opt for brown/black by day and reserve black for night. Blue mascara, however, can brighten blue eyes while purple mascara makes brown eyes pop. The most popular mascara sold in the US is Maybelline Great Lash mascara, a great buy at under $6. The company estimates one tube is sold every 1.6 seconds in the U.S.
  • Tip #4: When applying mascara, wiggle the wand at the base of the lashes. It’s the mascara placed near the roots (not the tips) that gives the illusion of length.
  • Tip #5: Thin, short brushes are best. A thinner brush allows you to get into the corner of eyes. Short brushes give you more control.
  • Tip #6: Give a few coats to the edges by blinking. Blink onto the brush to give ends an extra coat.
  •

  • Tip #7: Powder under the eye before applying mascara. Sometimes mascara smudges because it’s attracted to oily concealer or eye creams.
  • Tip #8: Use an eyelash curler Curling lashes gives eyes the appearance of being wider and brighter. Shoot warm air from your blowdryer on the mascara curler for 3-5 seconds to warm it up before curling lashes. Touch it first to make sure it’s not too hot. It’s a myth that you have to curl lashes before you apply mascara. You can curl lashes after mascara application, just make sure the mascara is dry first. Shu Uemura makes the most popular eyelash curler on the market ($18-$22).
  • Tip #9: Zig-zag the wand. Zig-zagging the wand back and forth during application helps cut down clumps.
  • Tip #10: For a dramatic look, apply mascara only to the upper lashes. To make eyes seem wider, apply to the bottom, too. But make sure you give lashes a light touch. Not great at getting those bottom lashes? Try putting a tissue under them before application.

Giggles lift Gigli’s playful womenswear show

Posted by tehreem On February - 23 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Fashion’s fun side took the limelight at the Romeo Gigli show on Friday, with models smiling, dancing and twirling down the catwalk in designer Gentucca Bini’s playful womenswear designs.

First down the aisle was a black, bald woman in a huge black and aquamarine checked baggy suit, carrying an enormous scarlet suede portfolio and sporting dark green suede platform shoes.

Bini turned the tables on soft tops and heavier bottoms, using striped silk for baggy trousers under jumpers of thick wool felt.

“It was as if the same outfit became a different thing just by changing the material,” Bini said in a statement.

Models with piled-high pre-Raphaelite hair and whitened faces like Cate Blanchett’s Elizabeth took each others’ hands and turned each other around, or took their heavy, rounded platform shoes off halfway down the catwalk.

A long, sherbet orange and pink check dress won applause, not least for the wearer’s kisses to the audience, while the same fabric pitched up in a dress under a purple wet-look cape coat.

    Bidz.com, Inc.`s share repurchase authorization

Posted by tehreem On February - 22 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Bidz.com a leading online auctioneer of jewelry, announced today that it has received approval for an increase in its revolving credit line to $25 million, from $15 million, with Bank of America, as well as board authorization to significantly increase its share repurchase program to $20 million from $5 million.

The increased board authorization is effective for the next 24 months and the Company intends to begin implementation of the repurchase after it reports earnings next Thursday, February 28, and the blackout period is over and the repurchase window opens. The Company currently has a zero balance outstanding on its current credit line of $15 million, and only $1.2 million has been utilized to repurchase shares to date.

The Company feels the additional capacity from its untapped credit line, combined with its improvement in cash flow, low capital expenditures and 15 consecutive quarters of profitability, provides ample financial flexibility to both opportunistically repurchase shares, purchase inventory and continue to fund its working capital and infrastructure needs.

Our business continues to grow profitably and we are very excited about our leading position in the online jewelry market place, said Chairman & CEO, David Zinberg. The increase in our share repurchase authorization will allow us to opportunistically purchase shares from time to time, when we believe the market is not appropriately valuing the strength of our business, or prospects.
