Tips For Keeping Your Nails Healthy

Posted by tehreem On April - 28 - 2008 1 COMMENT

beautiful-nails.jpgClassic red, iridescent blue, soft pastel or bright orange are only some of the thousands of nail color shades available in matte, gloss and sparkle finish. Two-toned colors are also gaining favor with the beauty conscious day by day and being color correct and keeping pace with the fast changing trends of nail culture is becoming more and more difficult. Here are some sensible advise from the beauty and nail experts for you to use:

  • Coloring your nails draw greater attention to your hands. So, don’t forget to moisturize your hands every time you wash them with special hand creams with aloevera so that they don’t dry off easily.nal1.jpg
  • Once a week manicure and a dipping your hands in lukewarm olive oil bathe with salts will give you smooth skin on hands and beautiful, healthy and glowing nails.
  • Soften the skin on the nail by applying oil or cream in it regularly. Dip the fingertips in olive oil to nourish the grooves beside the nails and skin under them. It will make pushing it back easier and will nourish the nail bed thus, enhancing the growth of the nail.
  • Soft nails are not brittle and easier to cut, file or shape. You may also polish them after smoothing its surface by gentle filing strokes.
  • Use a multicolored lacquer to polish the nails for that sheer tinted look and you may also dye them with bright nail colors with high gloss with a steady hand.

The pearls are beautiful, valuable, and people are willing to purchase and wear them. The ideal pearl is perfectly round, smooth and shiny. The quality of pearls is judge by its orient. Fine pearls don’t have any spots or flaws in the nacre. The finest quality pearls are highly valued gemstones. The fake pearls are easily distinguished from the real pearls.

There are many kinds of pearls, Akoya pearls are the most popular pearl because it is a high quality pearl. Akoya pearls are very clean and generally free of heavy blemishes. Akoya harvests produce a reliable quantity of round and near-round pearls.
Akoya cultured pearls come in many colors from silvery/white to gold and even blue/grey. Akoya pearls size range is from 1mm to 10mm more commonly 5mm to 8mm.

There is another kind of a pearl called freshwater pearl. Freshwater pearls are those pearl that come from freshwater mussels. This is the most common type of pearl and is as good as or better than any other pearl. They are produce in Japan and United States to a limited scale. They are the only pearl which cover a wide range of color and shape. It is very difficult to find a very round and very loustrous freshwater pearl. Freashwater pearl can be found in white, silvery white, pink, salmon, red, copper, bronze, brown, lavender, purple, green, blue, cream, and yellow.

    Lipstick Tricks & Tips

Rona Berg, in her book, “The Beauty Basics,” lists a bunch of great lipstick tips and tricks, some of which I want to share with you.

Tip #1: Lipstick done? You might notice there’s still a bit of lipstick down in the tube. Scrape out the last bits with a cotton swap or orange stick and mix it with Vaseline or lip gloss in a lipstick palette. Use a lip brush to apply.

I also love this tip shared by reader Patti Campbell. She scoops out the lipstick remnants from the bottoms of her tubes and she puts them in a pill case, “the one with the days of the week individually capped.” She then nukes the pill case until the lipstick melts.

  • Tip #2: Never use a test lipstick on your lips. It’s just plain unhygienic. Instead, test lipstick on your fingertips. It’s a closer fit to your lips than the back of your hand.
  • Tip #3: Use liner on your lips as a base. Lipstick will last longer if you fill in your lips with the liner first. If you’re using light lipstick, try a nude liner. Then slick your lipstick on top.
  • Tip #4: Never use a dark liner with light lipstick. Defined lips are great, but make sure the liner matches the lipstick or gloss. Dark liner and light lips is tacky.
  • Tip #5: Keep lipstick off your teeth with this trick. This is a trick I learned years ago from my mom. After applying lipstick, take your index finger and pop it in your mouth, then pull it out. The excess lipstick will come off on your finger rather than your teeth.
  • Tip #6: Lipstick can act as a blush. But never use blush as a lipstick.
  • Tip #7: Youcan line before or after you apply lipstick or gloss. Some women prefer to apply liner first, arguing that you won’t be able to see the natural line of your lips if you apply lipstick first. But I find lips look more natural when I line lips after I apply lipstick.
  • Tip #8: The older you are, the ‘creamier’ your lips should look. Women over 50 should avoid matte or a gloss and stick with a creamy lipstick.
  • Tip #9: Don’t throw out a bad color lipstick. Beauty editors know you can create a great lipcolor by blending lipsticks you don’t like. You can also color in lips with a darker liner before applying a lipstick that’s too bright.
  • Tip #10: For ‘plump’ lips, apply liner just outside your natural lipline. Dab a bit of gloss in the middle of your bottom lip.

The lower house of parliament passed a bill that would make it illegal for anyone, including magazines, advertisers and websites, to publicly incite extreme thinness.

The National Assembly approved the bill in a series of votes, after the legislation won unanimous support from the ruling conservative UMP party. It goes to the Senate in the coming weeks.

Fashion industry experts said that, if passed, the law would be the strongest of its kind anywhere. Leaders in French couture are opposed to the idea of legal boundaries on beauty standards.

The bill was the latest and strongest of measures proposed after the 2006 anorexia-linked death of a Brazilian model prompted efforts throughout the international fashion industry to address the repercussions of using ultra-thin models.

Conservative Valery Boyer, who introduced the proposed law, argued that encouraging anorexia or severe weight loss should be punishable in court.

Doctors and psychologists treating patients with anorexia welcomed the government’s efforts to fight self-inflicted starvation, but warned that its link with media images remained hazy.

“I only do one bridal collection a year, so we have to have a lot of choices,” said de la Renta. “I try to make different gowns for different locations.”

And there were gowns for different characters, as well: Southern belles, Spanish dancers, high school sweethearts and classic Cinderellas, to name a few. Whatever the narrative for the bridal fantasy, however, a wedding dress by Oscar de la Renta is a must for any Park Avenue princess or those who just want to look like one for a day.

Think getting married is a solemn and staid affair, and a traditional white gown the only option? For brides looking for a gown with more whimsy and character than the average off-the-rack number, Reem Acra is the designer to seek out. Each season, Acra invents a charming new narrative for her bridal collection, with memorable gowns that offer a unique vision for the big day.

“This collection is about looking 20 years down the road,” said Acra at the presentation for her Spring 2009 bridal collection on Sunday, April 13 at her New York showroom. “It’s about the future. What’s going to happen to my dresses? The young girls are going to go into their mother’s closet and play with them. It’s about having fun!”

To that end, models were placed in various tableaux vivant, where they had tea parties, lounged on furniture, played with dolls or simply smiled with a mischievous gleam in their eyes, as though they were girls who had just raided the attic were playing dress-up, as Edith Piaf’s voice filled the room. In Acra’s program notes, dresses referred to characters like Alice in Wonderland, Raggedy Ann, Strawberry Shortcake and Sleeping Beauty.
