Posted by tehreem On April - 12 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Australia’s fashion industry dumped plans to use a 14-year-old model as the face of its annual showcase on Friday after fashion magazines refused to publish the girl’s photo because she was too young.

Organizers of Australia’s fashion week had planned to make 14-year-old Polish model Monika Jagaciak the star of its annual fashion shows from April 28 to May 2.

But editors from Vogue magazine and Marie Claire threatened to pull coverage of the fashion events and called for Organizers to follow guidelines in place in London and Paris, which place restrictions on models under 16 years old.

“Fourteen is young and extreme,” Australia’s Vogue editor Kirsty Clements told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio.

Nail polish remover not only wipes off the old color but also the grease from the nails and makes the new color coat stay put for longer period of time. Apply thing coat of nail polish, let it dry and then apply another coat. Even if you want a glossier effect, go for more than two thin coats rather than a thick coat of polish as it dries sooner and lasts longer and do not chip off easily.

It is advisable to use the remover and applying nail polish only once or twice a week to prevent your nails from drying. Even if you do this, be sure to use removers with built-in moisturizers to keep your nails healthy. There are some tricks to keep in mind while painting your nails or give them the perfect look:

  • For the flawless French Manicure, use a white nail pencil to line the nail tip from beneath for that pure white clean look instead of white nail polish.
  • Do not forget to a weekly hand massage to pamper yourself, increase your circulation and enhance nail growth.
  • To make the chip-resistant nail enamels last longer, submerge your freshly painted nails in a bowl of ice-cold water for 30 seconds.
  • While running for the car, you will just need five seconds to put a wide stripe of a quick-drying nail varnish down the center and you are ready to go!
  • If your nail polish has chipped to an extent that touchups are of no use, better use the remover rather than trying to hide it under a coat of nail paint that makes the texture of your nails took uneven.
  • You may sometimes even get away with cleaning the nails underneath, rubbing on the buffing cream and use chamois buffer for the healthy shine.
  • Remember never to file the corner of your nails as it weakens them amd make them brittle.

Organizations representing fashion houses, advertising firms and media outlets with the backing of the French minister of health, in Paris, signed a charter of good conduct about the future use of super model body images to hold off growing concerns about anorexia. Several of the signers viewed the formal move as a “first step” toward helping to sturggle the eating disorder.

On the same day, a law project made the case before a commission at France’s National Assembly, to punish those people or organizations that help to propagate unhealthy body images. Parliament members will examine this law project next week.

Menswear fashion designer John Varvatos has opened his newest boutique in the space that once housed the famed underground music club CBGB, where popular acts such as Blondie, Television, The Ramones and Patti Smith played.

Varvatos has preserved much of CBGB’s poster- and graffiti-covered walls and recreated some of its gritty mood with dark wood, Victorian-style crystal chandeliers, velvet curtains and a black ceiling.

The much heralded CBGB, born in 1973, closed its doors in October 2006 after a rent dispute.

CBGB’s stage is gone, as is its distinctive original door. But the space still has a slightly cavernous feel, and the decor of guitars, drums, vintage hi-fi equipment and classic album covers evoke its history. Plans call for an in-house disc jockey and concerts by up-and-coming artists.

“We’re not trying to reinvent CBGB’s,” said Varvatos in an interview this week. “We’re just trying to respect the past and let people have an opportunity to enjoy what was there.

“It sounds kind of hokey, but the walls kind of talk in that place,” he added.

Posted by Qurratulain On April - 9 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Linen is one of the most demanded cloths, and the simple reason for such demand is its variety of uses i.e. bed linen, table linen, linen clothes etc. Besides uses, durability, freshness and smoothness also make linen the highly demanded cloth. But for having all such features in your linen requires you to make sure that you have pure linen with you. The different uses may require a little variation in type of linen but the smoothness and freshness remain requisites of almost all of them.

Having best of the linen lets you and your home look too good! Making clothes with linen is fashion, and setting home with it passion of course! This can be much better if it’s taken care as well, i.e. washing properly, special treatment while removing stains, and ironing well! Linen as I said earlier is durable, but of course if it’s used and stored properly, i.e. cool dry and well ventilated area best suits linen.

Linen has not been discussed earlier on Jewel & Jewel but it’s compatibility with all seasons, styles and uses compelled it to be a part of it!

British supermodel KATE MOSS regained first place in the British edition of Glamour’s annual best-dressed woman list, the magazine revealed, as KYLIE MINOGUE tumbled from the top.Moss, 34, dominated the list before the Australian pop star overtook her in 2007, but Minogue’s fashion choices during the past 12 months have been too “outlandish” for many voters’ tastes, a spokesman for the magazine said.

But the Australian singer, 39, slumped to 19th place this year in the poll voted for by readers - a tumble blamed by the magazine on her appearance on television talent show the X Factor wearing a figure-hugging lace catsuit that divided viewers and fashion watchers.

British actress SIENNA MILLER came second, while US counterparts SCARLETT JOHANSSON, RACHEL BILSON and JENNIFER ANISTON completed the top five.
