Dry Hands Care

Posted by tehreem On November - 29 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Struggling with dry hands can be pretty painful.
Even if you are diligent about keeping them protected when doing housework or gardening, and unfailingly apply moisturizer whenever the opportunity arises, you can still suffer from bone-dry, cracked, parched hands.

It is still of vital importance to protect your hands from dish detergent, laundry detergent, excessive washing, and irritating ingredients, and also when doing potentially irritating manual activities such as yard work or sports.
Wearing gloves to prevent contact with these types of products and ingredients is of the utmost importance.
However, a significant number of women may find they are allergic to latex gloves.

The faster you get an emollient moisturizer on your hands after washing, and the longer you can keep it on, the better. (Note: Any good, emollient moisturizer will work—it does not have to be labeled “hand cream

” to be used on the hands.)
It helps to keep small tubes or bottles of moisturizer all over the house, including near the kitchen sink, in the bathroom, at the bedside, and in the garage.

Keep more in your car, purse, briefcase, and desk drawer. That way it is never out of reach for a quick application.
The best moisturizers for daytime are moisturizing sunscreens whose active ingredient is avobenzone, titanium dioxide, or zinc oxide.

How to Clean Diamonds at Home

Posted by tehreem On November - 27 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Diamonds are indeed the most inspiring of all precious stones, taking care of them however, will ensure that their sparkling brilliance will continue to impress. A few tips on caring for your diamonds are shared below.

Cleaning to ensure a brilliant sparkle

Dust and small particle build-up on the surface of the stones may cause a dull appearance. To return the shine take a warm bowl of water and soak the diamonds for an hour or two. Use a small and soft bristle brush to remove the dirt and grime. You can add a mild detergent to the water to help break up fatty deposits. Be sure to rinse the stones well by making use of a tiny-hole strainer to contain the stones while rinsing them. Don’t rub the stones to dry them, rather pat them dry with a soft lint-free cloth.

Extreme cleaning

If the diamonds are extremely dull, you may need to use a solution of half ammoniac and half water. Soak the stones for 20 minutes and then remove them from the solution. Use a soft bristled brush to remove dirt and grime. Rinse and pat dry in the same way as described previously.

Protect Your Skin Against the Cold Weather

Posted by tehreem On November - 25 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

It is a common fact that excessive sun exposure can be damaging to your skin. However, cold weather can take its toll on your skin, too, especially if you have sensitive or dry skin. The lower temperatures outside, increased windiness and the fact you are turning up the thermostat in your home can all make your skin chapped, flaky, blotchy, dry and itchy.

During the summer, we are more prone to take care of our skin because of the constant need for topical relief measures such as sunscreen and insect repellent. However, the winter is the season when our skin actually needs the most extra care. To help your skin to survive the brutality of the season, keep in mind the following simple winter skin care tips:

1. Continue to use a sunscreen with SPF 15 or better. Although you may not feel it as much, the sun can be just as powerful when reflecting off the snow or while taking a long walk outdoors as it is on a summer day at the beach. A convenient suggestion is to use a moisturizer or foundation with a built-in sunscreen everyday.

2. Use a mild cleanser as opposed to soap, which can strip your skin of the essential oils it needs.

3. Though you may not be as thirsty as during the summer, continue to drink lots of water to provide the necessary hydration to your skin.

4. Avoid products with high alcohol content, heavy perfumes or other additives that can irritate your sensitive, dry skin.

5. During the cold weather, you might want to try using a thicker, richer moisturizer, two to three times per day, to help your skin to adequately replenish the moisture it loses.
