Eye MakeUp: Enhance your Eye Shape

Posted by tehreem On July - 24 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Eyes have been called the windows of the soul because of how much they communicate. Eyes give your face energy and individuality. They do not have to be a certain size or shape to be considered pretty - all eyes have their own unique beauty. When makeup is applied to look natural it will bring out the eye’s true color and enhance the eye’s beauty. When you feel good about your makeup you will be more confident and will have one less thing to worry about.

A subtle application of eyeliner, shadows and mascara work together to create magic and make your eyes look their best.

Eye Shadow

Eye shadow is meant to highlight and define the eyes. Eye shadow is used to create depth to bring out the beauty of the eyes. A dark color used on the lid will make the eye appear smaller, while a lighter color will make it appear larger. That is what eye shadow is about creating illusions. These are the basic techniques for the following eye shapes:

Small eyes: Don’t use too much shadow or liner – it will make you eyes look smaller. Apply a light color on eyelid, use a darker color in the crease and use a highlighter under the brow.

Large eyes: Wear darker shadow on the lid and extend it to the crease. Use a flat color under the brow to highlight.

Deep-set eyes: Use light colors on the eyelid and under the brow. Use a medium color in the crease. Emphasize the outer corners with shadow.

Wide-set eyes: Use darker colors on the inner corners of the eye.

Hooded eyes: Apply light colors on the lid. Use darker colors from the center of the eyelid to the outer corners and blend.

Round eyes: Make round eyes longer by using color all around and extending toward the outer corners.

Asian eyes: Apply highlighter under the brow. Use light shadow on the inner half of the lid and a darker color on the outer half.

1. Light colors cause the eyes to open, dark colors will cause the eyes to recede

2. If you have very light skin avoid dark shades

3. Be careful with shimmer – they will bring attention to imperfections and wrinkles.

4. The eye area is the first to show age don’t tug on the skin.

Eyeliners:

Eyeliners are meant to define the eyes so they should do just that, not be the focal point of your makeup. Eyeliners come in various colors and forms liquid, pencil etc. Keep the eyeliner natural. Pencils are available in many colors (for the best look stick to black or brown) and can be sharpened for a fine line. For a smudged effect use a sponge tip shadow applicator or an eye shadow brush. When your pencils are too soft refrigerate them. When they are too hard soften them by holding them between your fingers.

Applying Concealer

Posted by tehreem On July - 13 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Nodoubt Concealer is one of the most important products in any woman’s beauty arsenal. In fact, many beauty editors use concealer primarily and skip the foundation completely.

Steps For Applying Concealer:

  • Adding yellow eye shadow to the concealer can effectively cover dark circles.
  • Blue or green eye shadow added to concealer is helpful to mask ruddy tones and broken capillaries.
  • Dry your pimple with the help of a blow dryer on low heat and then use a pointed brush to target the yellow-toned concealer that matches the tone of your foundation, which is dry and has a high pigment level, to the spot. Lightly press around the edges with fingers. Set with loose powder. You can also use concealer pencil for the purpose.
  • Freckles and pigmentation must only be hidden when it is absolutely necessary as it takes a heavy layer of concealer to cover them up and can look worse. Moisturize the skin well and apply a creamy concealer, which is a shade lighter than your foundation and set it with loose powder. For added glamour, you can also dust it with subtle, skin-toned shimmer powder.
  • The inside of the nose bridge, corner of moth and outer corner of eyes are the most susceptible areas and need special attention while applying concealer.

    Applying Eyeshadow

Posted by tehreem On July - 12 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

EYESHADOW should always glide on smoothly, and can be used to subtly change or enhance the shape of the eyes, to add simple definition or to make a strong impact, depending on your choice of colour. When applying eyeshadow sweep the lightest shade across the entire area from lash line to brow. This serves as a base to the other eye shadow colors much like a foundation for the rest of the face. A medium color can be applied on the lower part of the lid. The darkest shade can be skillfully used to create depth.

    How to Apply Eyeshadow

Make-up artists recommend that, when you are wearing eyeshadow, you should pile on extra loose powder  under the eyes to catch any stray particles of eyeshadow. After shading the eyes, this can be removed by dusting off with a large make-up brush. After application, if you feel your choice of eyeshadow is too intense, tone the colour down by dusting with face powder or gently wipe a foundation sponge over the eyelid to make the overall effect more subtle. To ensure that your eyeshadow is long-lasting and crease-proof, make-up artists advise application with a damp make-up brush. As the eyeshadow is blended into the skin, it will dry. Also, because the product will cling to the wet brush, stray particles of powder will not collect on the cheeks.

    1. Apply a light color over your entire eye lid from lash line to brow. Use a large flat eye shadow brush. Always use good quality brushes.

    2. The second step is to apply a medium shadow color on your lower lid from lash line to the crease of your eye. Use a fluff brush.

3.The third step is to use your darkest color as a liner and apply along your lash line. To insure shadow will not flake, dampen your eyeliner brush before applying shadow. This will make it last longer.

    Types of eye shadows

    • Dark - This is applied only to the eyelids from the lashline to the crease in the eyelid.
    • Medium - This is applied from just below the eyelid crease to the browbone.
    • Highlight - This is the lightest of the three and is applied to the browbone and extends a little past the outer end of the eyebrow. This usually gives a pearly finish.

    Eyeliner Tips & Tricks

Posted by tehreem On June - 30 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Eyeliner can make even the smallest eyes appear larger. Applying it correctly is key, you don’t want the line to be too dark, harsh and obvious or you risk looking overdone. Here we share our favorite tried-but-true eyeliner tips.

The Basic, “I’m Off to Work or the Weekend,” Eye

This is the perfect work or weekend look for women who want their eyes to “pop” without giving off the appearance of a woman who’s really, really into makeup, so into makeup she has this site bookmarked in her Web favorites.

The key to the basic eye is to apply with a light hand. Unless you are Catherine Zeta-Jones or Beyonce and have been blessed with sultry dark looks, opt for a lighter shade than kohl or black. The basic eye is all about appearing natural. Leave the black for the looks below.

This look calls for liquid or pencil eyeliner, a deep-hued eyeshadow and an eyeliner brush.

Step 1: Holding the skin of your upper lid taut, apply eyeliner from the outside corner of the eye, stopping two-thirds of the way along the eyelid. Apply with short strokes, drawing the line into the lash line rather than above it. For a more dramatic look, make the outside line a bit thicker than the inside.

Step 2: Set liner with a deep eyeshadow. Dip eyeshadow brush into the shadow, then apply shadow over the eyeliner. This will set the eyeliner, which tends to rub off on eyelid.

Step 3: Apply eyeshadow to lower lashes. Using your eyeshadow brush, apply the deep-hued eyeshadow along the bottom lashes, from the outside in. Unless you have wide-set eyes, don’t line the entire lower lid. Instead, stop halfway across. For a more natural look, don’t dip the brush into the shadow again, instead, use the excess that’s still on the brush for the lower lashes.

Step 4:Clean up any mistakes with a cotton swab.

Extra tips: To make eyes appear wider, trace the inner rims of eyes with a white pencil.

Choosing And Applying A perfect Red Lipstick

Posted by tehreem On May - 1 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

lips1.jpgFirst of all, choosing the correct red is crucial for you! Here are some helpful tips for selecting the right shade of red for your skin tone:

    • Fair skinned ladies should opt for a red with blue or cool undertones.
    • Ruddy skin (with reddish undertones) looks best with pinkish reds that have tinges of violet or fuchsia.
    • Olive and darker skin colors look great in warm reds with orange, golden, or brown bases.
    • Dark brown skin looks stunning in brighter fuchsia reds.

No-fail selection: keep in mind that a blue-based red is flattering on most skin tones and will set off a sparkle in your eye, make your teeth appear whiter, and give your skin a luminous glow.

Now comes application, that may be as follows:

    • Line lips with a lip pencil that matches your natural lip color.
    • Smudge this lining with a Q-tip or your finger to soften the outline for a more natural look.
    • Set down a base layer by lightly applying the lip color (lipstick or gloss) with a professional grade lip brush, spreading color from the center of your lips and moving out. Since a little red goes a long way, using a brush helps you apply just the right amount of product.
    • Blot lips with tissue. Carefully apply a second coat.
    • For extra dimension and the appearance of a fuller, more sensual pout, finish with a tiny dollop of pearlized gloss in the middle of the bottom lip.
    • Pucker up.

    Lipstick Tricks & Tips

Posted by tehreem On April - 16 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Rona Berg, in her book, “The Beauty Basics,” lists a bunch of great lipstick tips and tricks, some of which I want to share with you.

Tip #1: Lipstick done? You might notice there’s still a bit of lipstick down in the tube. Scrape out the last bits with a cotton swap or orange stick and mix it with Vaseline or lip gloss in a lipstick palette. Use a lip brush to apply.

I also love this tip shared by reader Patti Campbell. She scoops out the lipstick remnants from the bottoms of her tubes and she puts them in a pill case, “the one with the days of the week individually capped.” She then nukes the pill case until the lipstick melts.

  • Tip #2: Never use a test lipstick on your lips. It’s just plain unhygienic. Instead, test lipstick on your fingertips. It’s a closer fit to your lips than the back of your hand.
  • Tip #3: Use liner on your lips as a base. Lipstick will last longer if you fill in your lips with the liner first. If you’re using light lipstick, try a nude liner. Then slick your lipstick on top.
  • Tip #4: Never use a dark liner with light lipstick. Defined lips are great, but make sure the liner matches the lipstick or gloss. Dark liner and light lips is tacky.
  • Tip #5: Keep lipstick off your teeth with this trick. This is a trick I learned years ago from my mom. After applying lipstick, take your index finger and pop it in your mouth, then pull it out. The excess lipstick will come off on your finger rather than your teeth.
  • Tip #6: Lipstick can act as a blush. But never use blush as a lipstick.
  • Tip #7: Youcan line before or after you apply lipstick or gloss. Some women prefer to apply liner first, arguing that you won’t be able to see the natural line of your lips if you apply lipstick first. But I find lips look more natural when I line lips after I apply lipstick.
  • Tip #8: The older you are, the ‘creamier’ your lips should look. Women over 50 should avoid matte or a gloss and stick with a creamy lipstick.
  • Tip #9: Don’t throw out a bad color lipstick. Beauty editors know you can create a great lipcolor by blending lipsticks you don’t like. You can also color in lips with a darker liner before applying a lipstick that’s too bright.
  • Tip #10: For ‘plump’ lips, apply liner just outside your natural lipline. Dab a bit of gloss in the middle of your bottom lip.

    Makeup foundation tips

Posted by tehreem On February - 29 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

One of the first makeup tips you should observe is the importance of finding the the right foundation. It could be the difference between looking as if you have naturally flawless skin or as if you are wearing a mask.

Most women have yellow-based skin. They include most Caucasians and all Asian, Latin and African women. To get that perfectly natural, flawless look they need to wear foundations with a yellow base.

Most foundations on the market however have pink or orange tones. Women wearing these foundations often end up looking artificial, ashy and two-toned.

    Foundation Tips

  • Test foundation along your jaw line - not on your hand and definitely not on the inside of your wrist. View it under different light settings. It must match the natural color of your neck.

  • For easy transition from day to night makeup, touch up with Sacha’s Dual Activ Foundation. If will provide the finish of a powder with the coverage of a foundation.
  •

  • Dampen your cosmetics sponge to create a sheer finish.
  • For a great makeover you must start with the right foundation. Whereas eye shadow, lipstick, and blusher accent the face, it is the foundation that sets the tone for a woman’s appearance.  Test foundation on the jaw line or forehead.
  • If you want your foundation to look sheer, apply it with a sponge. For more coverage apply it with your fingertips. Professional makeup artists prefer using a makeup brush as this will apply and blend the foundation beautifully.
  • Tap foundation on with sponge or finger. Your skin will look luminous, yet natural.
